Kenyan Crisis

In Africa, Politics on January 8, 2008 at 2:08 pm

I don’t know if you guys have heard about it, but there is a lot of political unrest going on in Kenya.  Last Sunday the election for their next president was held with massive voter turnout.  Apparently the incumbent leader, President Mwai Kibaki, or the electoral commission, have altered the counts of the votes, declaring Kibaki the winner.  Many Kenyans are angry at this apparent fraud and have begun rioting.  I don’t know a whole lot about the issue and am doing some research into it.  You can learn more about the Kenyan Crisis and Africa in general over at White African.

Please pray for the people of Kenya.  There is a lot of anger in the civilians, and now that has erupted into violence.  They could use some prayers right now.

  1. Unfortunatley much of the poverty and suffering of the people of Africa is caused by the corrupt leadership. The old addage that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutley is proven to be true just by looking at Africa.

  2. Jaryd, what your dad says is very true and not just in Africa. As far as tallying the vote goes, look what has happened here during the last two presidential and gubernatorial elections with the votes having to be recounted and recounted. Each candidate hoping that the tally will eventually come out in their favor. At least we have a system in place to deal with those types of problems and are not facing what you describe. We are glad you have a big heart and a passion for the people of Africa.
